Malawi National Netball Team star shooter, Mwawi Kumwenda, is enduring a bad week after her Australian Suncorp Super Netball side, Melbourne Vixens, was beaten 56- 52 by Giants Netball on Sunday.
Mwawi went into the match having been listed in the league’s team of the week but lost her position to Magpies Netball Club’s Caitlin Thwaites in the current team of the week.
The Malawian was overlooked for failing to inspire her team to victory despite scoring in 34 out of 36 attempts, the highest goal conversion rate of the match at 94 percent.
Giants’ goalkeeper, Sam Poolman, found her way into the team of the week for silencing Mwawi’s magic during the match, earning herself some bonus points in the process.
Vixens are now second on the season’s ladder with 19 points while Giants are on top with a point more.
Mwawi is currently fifth on the scorers’ chart after converting 433 times in 466 attempts.
She has so far registered 18 offensive rebounds, 29 goal assists, five deflections and one interception.
The former Kukoma Diamonds star player has zero scores on defensive rebounds and centre pass receives owing to her goal shooter position.
Thwaites remains the leading scorer with 510 goals, followed by Sunshine Coast Lightning’s Caitlin Bassett who has netted 501 times.
Romelda Aiken (Queensland Firebirds), with 440 goals and New Swifts’ Sam Wallace on 436, are third and fourth on the chart respectively.
Vixens’ next match is on Sunday against Adelaide Thunderbirds.
