Copa Coca-Cola anticipates a challenging task when Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) affiliates—educational divisional sides—start selecting players to feature for their respective divisions at national finals.
Senior Brands Manager at Carlsberg Malawi, Titha Mbilizi, said the journey had been good after completing the district and educational divisions.
“We have not reported any violence and there is a noticeable growth of talent at the grass root level. The divisional finals reflected that we will have a tough job picking the select teams as the skills and techniques are of a wider pool this year. This is also attributed to the increased school participation,” she said.
Mbilizi said Copa has changed the landscape of football in Malawi.
“Currently a significant number of players in the Malawi National Team is that of players who are products of Copa Coca-Cola,” she said while highlighting Flames players such as Issac Kaliati, Brighton Munthali, Charles Swini, Simplex Nthala, John Banda, Schumarcher Kuwali, Francis Mulimbika,· Robert Ng’ambi, Joseph Kamwendo and Harry Nyirenda.
Mbilizi also said they were communicating with some of the Copa products to share notes.
“For instance Robert Ng’ambi and Joseph Kamwendo were invited to give a motivational talk at the 2014 Copa National finals. Also, as a Copa tradition during tournament finals we open the match with a play-off between the outgoing champions and an All Stars graduates team,” she said.
