Trio back from United Kingdom
Local netballers Lauren Ngwira and Sharo Kaiche returned home from the United Kingdom on Monday after featuring for Hertfordshire Mavericks during a day-long British Fast5 All-Stars Tournament last Saturday.
The pair featured for the team as All-Star guests whereas compatriot and netball icon, Mary Waya, was engaged as Mavericks’ shooters’ coach.
Waya, while in transit in South Africa yesterday, said she would grant The Daily Times an interview upon returning home.
Both players could not be reached for a comment.
Thunder Coach, Christina Mkwanda-Nsinji, confirmed that their player, Kaiche, was back.
“We will meet her over the weekend so that she can share with us on how she faired during the trip,” she said.
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said Mavericks had written the association recommending the trios’ participation in the Fast5 competition.
“So far, that is the report that we have received,” she said.
During the tournament, Loughborough Lightning were crowned inaugural champions after beating Team Bath 35-33 in a gripping final which went down to the wire at The O2.
Mavericks started the campaign strongly when they beat Surrey Storm 20-11.
In the second match, Mavericks lost to Severn Stars 8-24 before going down 5-26 to Team Bath in the third game.
