The recent shocking and embarrassing inconsistencies by the Netball Association of Malawi (Nam), ahead of the association’s polls slated for June 3 in Mangochi District, are raising eyebrows and it is madness which needs to be nipped in the bud.
It baffled most netball pundits when Nam secretariat decided to advertise vacant positions for people to apply ahead of the polls instead of asking for nominations.
Interested parties were asked to apply through Nam secretariat which was supposed to scrutinise the applicants. Ironically, these are the people who have vested interests in the polls.
After being pressured for violating its own constitution, the ultimate authorities in Nam changed the format of the advert and this time it was only announcing the activities of the annual general meeting.
From the look of things, there was a deliberate ploy by the outgoing committee to rig the elections.
Should one assume that the Nam Executive Committee did not read its constitution before placing this advert in the press?
This simply exposes the evil intentions of the Nam Executive Committee ahead of the polls.
Obviously, there are some elements who do not want to relinquish their positions and they want to retain them dubiously.
Whatever this Nam Executive Committee can do, it will still be remembered as the one that drastically brought down the standards of netball in the country.
This is a committee that has wasted a lot of energy demolishing the brilliance of the game of netball in the country.
If you ask if there is anyone I can vote for in this committee, I would confidently say none, because it is a serious crime to vote into office people who have trapped our once beautiful game into quagmire.
You can agree or disagree with me. I don’t care. You can label me a big fool, stupid, dull or any other derogatory adjective but I will maintain that this Nam committee has outlived its usefulness and should not be given another chance.
It is at owners risk to let this committee handle the electoral process. They will mess it up.
Of course, I am not a netball authority, but I am experienced enough to know that some people in this committee are quarks and upstarts and they do not deserve space in netball administration.
I have spent the whole four years, since they were elected into office, unable to get answers to the questions I have been asking, how did the netball fraternity entrust this wrong combination to be at the helm of Malawi netball?
