One of the participants in the 2020 Nyasa International Bonanza, Mozambique’s UD Songo, is leaving no stone unturned in preparing for the competition.
The team from the neighbouring country is currently camping in South Africa ahead of the tournament which will also have Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Zimbabwe’s Chicken Inn.
Songo, who finished as Mocambola League runners up last season, usually travel to South Africa for pre-season preparations.
While in South Africa, Songo will play a series of strength testing matches before flying to Blantyre for the three-day showpiece scheduled for Kamuzu Stadium.
Malawi national football team stand-in captain John ‘CJ’ Banda, who plies his trade with the Mozambican giants, said they arrived in the Rainbow Nation on Tuesday.
“We will be here for two weeks before proceeding to Malawi,” Banda said in a brief interview.
Banda is with his brother Frank and former Blue Eagles striker Schumacher Kuwali at Songo.
The bonanza runs from February 28 to March 1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Chicken Inn will be at the pre-season tournament for the second consecutive year after replacing fellow Zimbabwean side Dynamos who failed to confirm their participation.
Ferroviario de Nampula were crowned champions of the inaugural event with four points, at par with second placed Wanderers.
However, Mozambican side is not part of this year’s showpiece.
