Uganda to feature junior side against Flames

Uganda national team coach Milutin Sredojevic has disclosed that he might feature Under-23 players during independence celebration friendly match against the Flames on July 6.

Sredojevic told that country’s leading daily newspaper, New Vision, that he will use the match to give upcoming players and Under-23 players a chance to gain more playing time to boost their confidence ahead of the Africa Youth Championship qualifier against Egypt in July.

The Cranes will also play against Tanzania in Kampala on July 4 in the return leg of the Africa Nations Championship qualifier.

“We are looking at a bigger picture against Egypt in the Africa U-23 qualifier. Egypt is a more competitive team. We need to boost with Khalid Aucho and Luwagga Kizito and home the likes of Salim Jamal, Yunus Sentamu and Richard Kasagga will join the team,” Micho was quoted as saying by the New Vision.

Flames are using the friendly match against Uganda as part of their preparations for Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Swaziland in September. Malawi lost 1-2 to Zimbabwe in the opening match of Afcon qualifiers at Kamuzu Stadium early this month.

The match against Uganda, will be the first for caretaker Ernest Mtawali and his deputy Gerald Phiri senior.

Mtawali and Phiri were drafted in as caretakers after Young Chimodzi and Jack Chamangwana were fired due to the team’s poor performance.
