UGI in afforestation campaign
Local insurance company UGI has committed to continue undertaking reforestation initiatives in the country as part of its corporate social responsibility.
UGI business development manager, Atupele Mangochi, made the pledge on the sidelines of a tree planting exercise the company held at Chigumukile Primary School in Blantyre.
Mangochi said the exercise is part of the company’s drive to plant over 3 000 seedlings in the district before extending the initiative to other parts of the country.
“This is a fulfillment of one of UGI’s objectives that focus on the environment,” said Mangochi.
She said by planting the trees, the firm has taken part in the restoring the lost glory of nature.
At the school, UGI in partnership with the Wildlife and Environment Society of Malawi (WESM) planted over 1000 seedlings.
Another 2000 would be planted around the district before extending the drive to other parts of the country, according to Mangochi.
