Ugly scenes at Mzuzu Stadium
Violence reared its ugly head on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday during a game between Moyale Barracks FC and Blue Eagles after a disallowed goal.
Chaos ensued three minutes into added time when Eagles scored what was supposed to be an equaliser through Maxwell Salambula but referee Misheck Juwa blew for offside.
The referee’s decision irked Eagles players who attacked assistant Perry Kumwenda before security personnel intervened.
But Eagles Coach, Derklerk Msakakuona, insisted that his charges did not manhandle the referee.
“I controlled the players. I don’t think they manhandled the referee,” Msakakuona said.
Moyale won the game through Gastin Simkonda’s 63rd minute goal.
Moyale Coach, Charles Kamanga, hailed his charges for earning maximum points.
“I have fulfilled my promise to the supporters that this game was a must-win for us,” Kamanga said.
