Referee James Chisunkha’s officiation courted controversy in Mzuni’s TNM Super League match against Civil Sporting Club at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday. The game ended 1-1.
Wakisa Mwenenguwe put Mzuni ahead in the early staged of the game. When referee awarded Civil a penalty, which Captain, Joseph Kachule, converted in the 85th minute, Mzuni coaches invaded the pitch in protest.
The match was stopped for seven minutes. After the final whistle, home supporters threw objects onto the pitch, forcing the police to fire teargas canisters.
Mzuni Assistant Coach, McNerbart Kazuwa, and his Civil counterpart, Oscar Kaunda, agreed that the match was poorly handled.
“Under such circumstance, a draw feels like a victory. I am delighted with the crucial point. Going back to Lilongwe with four points from Mzuzu is not easy,” Kaunda said.
