Uladi Mussa, Kwanjana plead not guilty, out on bail
People’s Party (PP) Interim President Uladi Mussa and Central Regional Immigration Officer David Kwanjana today appeared before the Lilongwe Magistrate’s court after spending the night in police custody.
The two have since granted bail on condition that they surrender their travelling documents, report to Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) fortnightly and pay a surety of MK500, 000 each.
Mussa handed himself to ACB on Monday while Kwanjana was arrested by the Bureau earlier.
They have both denied charges levelled against them, in which they are suspected to have played key roles in the dubious issuance of citizenship to more than 50 foreigners in 2012.
The foreigners include 22 Burundians, 16 Rwandese, nine Ugandans and three Tanzanians.
ACB says the two neglected official duty and took advantage of public office.
Former Chief Immigration Officer Hudson Makhwala is also on bail, after being arrested on similar charges.
