Suspended People’s Party (PP) acting president, Uladi Mussa, has applied to the court to nullify resolutions made by the party’s National Executive Committee (Nec).

Mussa was suspended after he expressed interest in challenging the party’s president Joyce Banda at the party’s convention to be held later.

In the application made to the High Court in Lilongwe, Mussa accuses Banda of “illegally” influencing other party members to hold a meeting on September 5, which resolved to temporarily remove him from the position.

“The conduct of the First Respondent, Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda, of instructing, authorising and sponsoring the second respondent Hon Ibrahim Matola to call for a meeting of selected members of the Management Committee or of the National Executive Committee and to preside over the said meeting was unconstitutional, unfair and unreasonable.

“The action and conduct of the second respondent Hon Ibrahim Matola to call for a meeting of selected members of the Management Committee or of the National Executive Committee and to preside over the said meeting was unlawful, unconstitutional, unfair and unreasonable,” reads the application.

Apart from Banda and Matola, other respondents in the application are Noah Chimpeni and Ralph Jooma.
