Youth and Sports Minister Ulemu Msungama has said the government is committed to improving sports infrastructure across the country.
Msungama made the remarks on Thursday after commissioning Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) which has undergone some renovations.
“We cannot talk of sports in the country without mentioning BYC. That is why we spared some funds for renovation of the facility. This government is committed to supporting improvement of sports infrastructure across the country so that we continue to develop sports,” he said.
The minister further promised that government will roof the netball and basketball courts at the sports venue so that matches are played under all weather conditions.
Malawi National Council of Sports acting Executive Secretary, Henry Mereka, said such projects are important for the development of sports in the country.
“That is why we have also asked the minister to consider improving the facility so that it gets even better,” Mereka said.
Netball Association of Malawi General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said the renovated facility will help players to improve their game.
Malawi national netball team players were among the notable faces that graced the event.
The renovations mainly involved painting of volleyball, netball, basketball and tennis courts.
