After announcing in September this year, that there will be no music awards, organisers of the Urban Music People (UMP) have come out with some fashion and music awards.
Dubbed UMP Awards 2019 Blended Edition, the event is expected to be held at Crossroads Hotel in Blantyre on December 14.
One of the directors, Ken Limwame, better known as Zizwa in the music circles, said Wednesday that UMP, as a movement, thought of coming out with some awards as they wait for the return of the full music awards next year.
“We have managed to add a few music categories on this year’s fashion awards – so yes, people should get ready for the blended edition of the UMP Awards,” Zizwa said.
He maintained that this was not a sign of losing track but that rather they wanted to end the year with an activity.
“We have one event but we will award both fashion and music achievers. We will also have the media event but this will be separate and we will communicate the details,” Zizwa said.
He said UMP, as a movement, has been vibrant this year.
“We have been holding several activities including college tour, and the UMP 50:50 female empowerment in arts, and we had an up-and-coming DJ competition recently,” Zizwa said.
According to the details of the UMP Awards 2019 Blended Edition (Fashion and Music), the fashion category includes Fashion Designer of the Year, Model of the Year, Best New Fashion Designer, Fashion Icon of the Year, Most Fashionable Celebrity and Living Legend.
In the music category, the awards include Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Best Duo/Group, Producer of the Year and Lifetime Achievement.
