Umthetho budget pegged at K30 million
By Samuel Kalimira:

Umthetho Cultural Festival organising committee is seeking K30 million to hold the event scheduled for August 7 to 10 2019 at Hora Mountain in Mzimba District.
The committee’s secretary, Moses Mkandawire, on Tuesday said chiefs, under Inkosi Ya Makosi M’mbelwa, have started contributing to the budget.
Mkandawire said the money would be used for transport, food and other logistical arrangements.
“We want to thank sons and daughters of the Ngoni-land of Mzimba who are vigorously contributing towards the budget. Chiefs are also supporting the event, as they always do, because they own the function.
“However, we still need other well-wishers, including the corporate world, to support us because the budget is still uncovered. Remember that we are going to receive visitors from neighbouring countries and they would need accommodation and food, among other things,” Mkandawire said.

He urged Malawians from all tribes and cultural groups to attend the event, saying it unites people.
Speaking separately, Senior Chief Mpherembe of Mzimba said the chiefs own the festival.
“We are happy because we hear that preparations are at an advanced stage. We always take this event seriously because it is ours, the Ngoni chiefs. This is the time we show all our respect to our Inkosi ya Makosi,” Mpherembe said.
At the event, the Ngonis showcase their culture by showcasing their food, drinks and cultural dances.
Before the celebrations day, the Ngoni chiefs hold a special meeting to discuss issues such as children affairs, culture and development.
Inkosi ya Makosi VI will lead people at the festival.
