She is expected to meet Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu, Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe and Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara.

Among other things, Verburg will discuss national, regional and global nutritional issues.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Kandodo Chiponda said the SUN is a renewed effort by the government of Malawi to eliminate all forms of malnutrition.

She said the movement was unique as it brought together different players.

“The movement transforms how communities work together by empowering them to put in place effective systems and increase investments in nutrition,” she said.

United Nations Children’s Fund Representative Tedra Damte said Malawi would be the first African country to eliminate vitamin A deficiency.

Malawi joined the SUN movement in 2011 and has managed to reduce the chronic malnutrition rate from 47 percent to 37 percent.
