Under-17 preparations promising

With 10 days before the country hosts Cosafa Under-17 Championship, Malawi under-17 national football team Manager, Enos Chatama, believes their preparations are on track.
“It is a huge challenge but we don’t need to heap pressure on the boys. We must focus on developing them then the other things will follow. The team is better than it was two weeks ago,” Chatama said after Monday’s afternoon training session.
Chatama said they would not set any target for the team.
“The focus will be on the game against South Africa then the next one. The good thing is that the youngsters are eager to learn and play,” he said.
Malawi were drawn in the same group with South Africa, Botswana and Zambia in Group A whereas Group B comprises defending champions Angola, Mozambique, Lesotho and Comoros Island.
Winners and runners up from each group will advance to the semi-finals of the competition which will take place at Chiwembe and Kamuzu stadiums in Blantyre.
The Deklerk Msakakuona side failed to reach the semi-finals last year in the edition which Mauritius hosted.
Malawi last hosted the event in 2001 when the likes of Robert Ng’ambi, Grant Lungu and Mapopa Msukwa fired the team to glory.
