Malawi under-20 national football team Manager, Aubrey Nankhuni, has brushed off age-cheating claims which their Swaziland (now called Eswatini) counterparts made following Sunday’s 1-1 draw.
“They were here two weeks ago and the game produced a draw [0- 0]. Why didn’t he [the hosts Coach Dumsani Makhanya] accuse us then? He is just under pressure because he never expected that we could proceed to the next level,” Nankhuni said on arrival with the team at Chileka Airport Monday.
In a post-match interview with Swazi Times newspaper, Makhanya urged Confederation of African Football (Caf) to investigate Malawi for allegedly fielding over-aged players during the Africa Cup of Nations preliminary round second-leg match played at Simhlolo Stadium in Lobamba.
“Caf must really look into this issue of age-cheating. It is killing our football. We were playing against a side that had players over 25 years,” Makhanya is quoted as saying.
Malawi date Angola in the next round next month.
