Malawi under-20 national football team expects to benefit from striker Peter Banda’s trip to Brazil with South Africa’s Orlando Pirates’ Project X team.
Banda joined the South African team on Wednesday for Friday’s trip to Rio de Janeiro as part of his two-week trials.
Junior Flames Team Manager, Aubrey Nankhuni, said while the Griffin Youngsters top shooter will be missed during Malawi’s friendly against Zambia today at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, he expects Banda to come back sharper.
“Competing in Brazil is a big plus for Peter’s talent. He will be exposed to best facilities that produce world class players. So, we expect him to come back home with more lethal weaponry in front of goal,” Nankhuni said.
He said a sharper Banda would be crucial to the junior Flames’ Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign against Angola, whose first-leg takes place on the weekend of May 12.
Meanwhile, pictures posted on Pirates’ Twitter account depict a smiling Banda at an airport with his Project X teammates bound for Brazil.
Banda will rejoin his Malawi teammates in camp upon his return in readiness for the Angola match.
