Under-20 skipper wants continuity

Malawi women’s under-20 national football team skipper, Zainabu Kapanda, has asked stakeholders including Football Association of Malawi (Fam) to strive to maintain the side.
Kapanda was speaking after arriving in the country following the teams’ elimination from the 2020 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
“It is good that we took part in the qualifiers. We tried our best but we failed. However, there are a lot of positives. We just need to improve in all areas and we will be able to take on heavyweights,” she said.
The Young Scorchers were knocked out on 2-1 aggregate after drawing at home one-all against Zimbabwe two weeks ago before losing 1-0 at Barbourfields in Bulawayo on Saturday.
Kapanda said the side must also take part in other continental tournaments to gain composure.
“We might have failed due to lack of exposure. What is needed is that we should have our developmental sides taking part in international competitions regularly,” she said.
The Young Scorchers also lost to Zambia 1-0 in a friendly match last weekend.
