United States of America (USA) based writer Caroline Kautsire is finally ready with her second memoir titled Some Kind of Girl: An African Girl Looking for America.

An excited Kautsire said Wednesday that this is a fresh and evocative story and that it takes people on a journey, based on the life of a Malawian girl who takes the risks necessary to adapt to American culture and to find out who she really is.

Austin Macauley Publishers announced the release of Kautsire’s book on December 16 2022.

Some Kind of Girl: An African Girl Looking for America is Kautsire’s sequel to her 2020 memoir, What Kind of Girl.

In the latest book, Kautsire recounts the story of her journey of self-discovery upon moving to USA where she had to deal with the impossibility of following both African and Western traditions for women.

“Some Kind of Girl is a page-turning book that attempts to connect cultures and widen an audience’s understanding about what it takes for a foreigner to live a new life in the United States of Ameri

Kautsire said readers will see how the experiences of this African girl awaken them to a new sense of personal liberty but also to profound insecurities about gender, race, class, language and sexuality.

Grappling with the tension created from maintaining her well-mannered Malawian persona in a new world, Kautsire slowly learns the rules of this new society, often with accompanying shocks and surprises.

On top of college life, the writer also has to navigate the complexities of immigration and do the arduous work of maintaining her legal status as a working student in America all by herself.

With the guidance of mentors and, sometimes, with misdirection from wild friends, the writer takes the risks that allow her to survive in her efforts to seize the American dream.

She said that her journey will resonate with the stories of other girls around the world who are struggling to come to terms with their own identities and that the book also speaks to people living in the diaspora who face the challenge of adapting to a new culture.

“This is a story that will inspire young women and men to ask the difficult questions, what kind of person have I chosen to be and what kind of person am I becoming? These questions were first raised in my debut memoir, What Kind of Girl,” she said.

Kautsire said the latest book reveals to the readers how she finally answered these questions.

“It has been a long process but I am happy that the book is finally here. The book will be available for purchase from Amazon, Barnes & Noble or the Austin Macauley website,” Kautsire said.

Currently an English teacher at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts, Kautsire, who is also an actress, poet and activist, is a Professor of English and a mentor for the Women’s Launch Pad at Brown University.ca,” she said.
