US firm to promote tennis in Malawi

In an effort to promote tennis in Lilongwe, a new organisation called Forehand 4 Friendship (F4F) has been formed to give children an opportunity to showcase their talent.

This programme will use tennis to teach less advantaged children so as to inspire them to aim for academic excellence.

F4F Country Programme Director, John Nyirenda, said the initiative aims at taking tennis to greater heights.

“It is a privilege for us in Malawi that this programme is here. We are grateful to Parsons Communication for recognising the value in supporting this cause. Our ultimate goal is to raise the level of youth tennis players in and around Lilongwe,” Nyirenda said.

F4F will be officially launched tomorrow at Lilongwe Golf Club with a two-day tennis tournament.

At least 150 children from the Central Region are expected to take part in the event.

F4F was founded by an America-based public relations firm, Parsons Communications, as part of their “Parsons Good Works” programme.

Currently, the programme operates primarily at Likuni primary school and uses an uneven football pitch and suspended discarded mosquito nets as a court.

Owner Joanie Parsons came to Malawi last year and witnessed the tremendous potential among young participants in a volunteer project called Sports Clinic.
