Ministry of Health has urged people living along the M1 Road to make use of the toll free line for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for timely emergency response in time of road accidents.
Spokesperson for the ministry, Joshua Malango, said usage of the toll free line is paramount in serving lives of people involved in accident.
“The ministry is committed in developing health and emergency systems that will, in the long run, effectively respond to road traffic accidents,” he said.
Malango said this on Saturday in Dedza during an awarenes campaign on EMS targeting districts along M1 Road. The districts include Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu and Balaka.
According to Malango, in time of accidents on the M1 Road, people can dial 118 toll line for an immediate response.
“Twelve emergency ambulances have been stationed in public hospitals along M1 Road districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Balaka and Blantyre with over 500 health personnel already trained to assist road accident survivors,” he added
The Ministry of Health publicist said plans are in the pipeline to construct emergency centers across the country.
Dedza Police Public Relations Office, Edward Kabango has welcomed the development saying road accident victims are now guaranteed of timely medical assistant.
