UTM president Saulos Chilima has said if elected president during the May 21 Tripartite Elections, he will establish a people-centred government.
He said this at a rally he addressed at Saint Augustine 2 School Ground in Mangochi Thursday.
Chilima said UTM had come to save the people of Malawi from their misery.
“UTM has come for you. We want to develop your lives in all spheres from household level. Be it in education, health and economically. To begin with, you do not have to learn under a tree. Everyone has to have access to well stocked hospitals which have well trained and cared for health workers,” he said.
Chilima said agriculture will remain the mainstay of the country’s economy, saying fish, animal and crop farming would be key to the country’s industrialisation drive.
He then pledged to revamp fish farming and develop the tourism sector in Mangochi.
He reiterated that Malawians should stop clapping hands for leaders when development projects are done, saying they are funded.
“The roads we are talking about will be built by all of us together. Together we will construct an airport using our taxes,” he said.
Chilima warned those he called failed politicians against dividing Malawians in the name of religion and ethnicity.
