Volleyball Association of Malawi (Vam) has expressed hope that the country will be represented by four teams at this year’s Zone VI Senior Club Volleyball Championships in Durban, South Africa.

Vam General Secretary Jairos Nkhoma said he had sent forms for four teams to fly the Malawi flag at the regional tournament which throws off on November 29 and ends on December 8.

The teams are Moyale Barracks men’s, Moyale Barracks Queens, Blue Eagles Ladies and Blue Eagles men’s.

Nkhoma said sending four teams to the competition would be good for volleyball development as the skills mastered at the annual event would benefit the country.

“Four teams going to the tournament would mean more than 40 players being exposed to modern tactics of the game. Coaches and other technical members would also benefit a lot as there are new rules of the game which they need to master,” he said.

A volleyball analyst Elton Ng’ombe said Malawian teams need to continue participating in international tournaments to learn new tactics of the game.

“We expect teams that represent us in international competitions to come back better and prove to us that they have learnt new tricks of the game. It is also good for us to have more teams in international events as they would encourage each other during and after games,” Ng’ombe said.

Sending four teams to the competition would be a milestone for Malawi after three teams Kamuzu Barracks, Blue Eagles Ladies and Moyale Queens competed at last year’s event in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
