Villagers in Mulanje have killed two robbers after they snatched guns from police officers at a roadblock.
The robbers, who had put masks on, attacked the police officers at a roadblock at Ng’omba near Mimosa in Mulanje and shot one of them in the leg and then disappeared into the tea fields.
Villagers around the area, however, followed them and managed to apprehend and kill the robbers in the process.
Confirming the development, National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera thanked the villagers for their vigilance and swift action which has saved the situation.
The bodies for the two robbers are being kept at Mulanje District Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for the Police in the Southern Region Demester Chigwenembe is conducting a press briefing on the issue.
