Leader of Peoples Land Organisation, Vincent Wandale, is refusing treatment at the Zomba Mental Hospital because he believes it might be a plot by government to eliminate him
Wandale, who has spent three days at the Mental Hospital, told The Daily Times in a telephone interview that he is against the treatment because he is afraid.
“ I am refusing the treatment because I want a private medical practitioner to confirm that I am indeed insane, but I cannot trust medical officers hired by the government, which I am not in good terms with, to treat me. I am suspicious of their conduct. I am hopeless because they are insisting that they have been ordered to give me the treatment, hence any day they will give me the medication by force.
“I have asked my mother to make some calls and see if we can find an alternative but I am worried,” Wandale said.
His lawyer, Oscar Taulo, Wednesday declined to comment saying he was rushing for another case at the court.
Last week, Taulo said he had challenged Lilongwe Magistrate Court’s ruling that he should go for psychiatric treatment at Zomba Mental Hospital.
But by the time the police took him to Zomba, his lawyer had not yet served them and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions the court order that the matter should be discussed on November 28.
Wandale was arrested last month barely four days after his inauguration as leader of what he calls the African Traditionalist Republic of the United States of Thyolo and Mulanje was postponed.
