Balaka-based visual artist Madalitso Ziwaoh has come third in an international painting competition organised by the Indian organisation called Incredible Talents.
Ziwaoh came to the limelight in March this year after exhibiting his works at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre under the theme ‘The Beauty in Black’.
“To come third in an international competition where a lot of artists participated is no mean achievement. I am excited to come third on acrylic category,” he said.
Ziwaoh said the prize will be sent to Malawi through veteran artist Nixon Malamulo, who was one of the members of the jury.
The title of the painting that led to his triumph is titled ‘Know Me’.
“I entered the competition with four images of my artworks,” he said.
The competition started last month and the announcement of the winners was done on May 25 which happens to be Africa Day.
The organisers have said that for the first position, it is direct nomination entry on their next award show plus trophy, medal and certificate while the second position will also get a trophy and certificate and medal.
The other winners are from the categories of oil painting, portrait, mix media and water colour.
“As artists, we need to participate in these competitions for the sake of visibility but also show what Malawi is made of. This competition challenged me to do more and offer more as an artist and at the same time being creative,” he said.
