Volleyball Association of Malawi national tournament June 30
This year’s national volleyball championship will be held in Lilongwe from June 30 to July 2, with 18 teams expected to compete in both men’s and ladies’ categories.
Volleyball Association of Malawi (Vam) General Secretary, Jairos Nkhoma, said the event will be crucial in helping teams prepare for this year’s Zone VI Senior Volleyball Club championship which takes place in December every year.
Nkhoma said the men’s category will have 10 teams— with the Northern and Southern regions being represented by three teams each while the Central Region, as hosts, will have four.
“In the women’s, category the Central Region will have four teams and the two regions of North and South will be represented by two teams each. Qualifying games already took place in the North and Centre but the South is yet to organise its qualifiers,” Nkhoma said.
The four representatives in the men’s category for the Central Region are Kamuzu Barracks, Junior Spikers, Blue Eagles and Mipuniro while in the ladies’ category, the teams that qualified are Blue Eagles, Kamuzu Barracks, Snipers and Bunda Dragons.
The Northern Region has Moyale Barracks, Mzuzu University and Police Eagle Claws flying its flag in the men’s category with Katoto Trickers and Moyale Barracks due to compete for the region in the ladies’ category.
Southern Region Volleyball League chairman, Pacharo Ngwira, said his committee is finalising logostics for the qualifiers to take place.
