WANTS WABAM COMMITTEE OUT— Makawa

Some Lilongwe-based bodybuilders are demanding the dissolution of Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (Wabam) executive committee over several issues including lack of transparency.

One of the members, Ismail Makawa, has confirmed filing a lawsuit to force the Wabam executive committee to step down.

“We need transparency and sports discipline. There are a lot of issues happening. Wabam has turned into a Blantyre committee as officials from other regions are being neglected.

“Before the Mr Malawi Bodybuilding contest, we officially raised our concerns over a number of issues including the quality of some judges as others were new to the sport while others have never participated in bodybuilding competitions. No wonder, some bodybuilders, fans and officials cried foul over results of contests,” he said.

Makawa said they opted for the court as it was difficult to unseat Wabam.

“We need to have the board dissolved and let the athletes and all members vote for a new board. We need audited financial reports back from the time they were elected,” he said.

Wabam President Arox Kamng’ona said it was difficult to comment on the issue without court summons.

“We are only hearing it on the social media but we haven’t been served with any document,” he said.

During the Mr Malawi contest, Emmanuel ‘MuscleManzy’ Muhuwa defended the title to pocket K2 million.

Second-placed Wellington Mwangonde got K1 million while third-placed Frazer Zeka received K500,000.
