Waiting game

With just 48 hours to go before the 2020 TNM Super League kicks off, Blantyre giants Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers are yet to release their final official squads.

The development could work to the disadvantage of released players as the current transfer window is set to close at midnight Friday.

This would leave the players with limited time to hunt for new clubs.

Bullets seem to have been at ease with finalising their squad for the new season, prompting Supporters Director Stone Mwamadi to speak out on the matter.

Mwamadi said the club needed to release players not featuring in the coach’s plans to help them hunt for new teams.

Some of the players reportedly not featuring in Coach Kallisto Pasuwa’s plans are veteran midfielder Fischer Kondowe and Bashir Maunde.

Kondowe and Maunde are still training with Bullets without contracts.

Another player who seems to be out favour, defender Miracle Gabeya, is reportedly in South Africa training with Cape Town City.

Bullets chief administrator, Albert Chigoga, said he could not state when the club would release the final squad.

Chigoga said they would release the squad after finalising contract negotiations with several players who are yet to extend their stay at the club.

“It is difficult for me to say much for now but be assured that we will be issuing updates on our players’ status before closure of the transfer window,” he said.

Chigoga said all their players are still part of the team until release of the official squad.

Wanderers General Secretary, Victor Maunde, said after releasing four players last month, they were comfortable with their squad.

“Of course, we have not made public our final squad but we are not releasing any player. We are currently working on signing one more player before the season kicks off. We, therefore, expect to announce our final squad by Friday [tomorrow],” Maunde said.

Lilongwe giants Silver Strikers released more than 17 players before embarking on a buying spree that saw them acquire the services of top players such as Foster Bitoni, Chifuniro Mpinganjira and Chikondi Kamanga, Mischeck Malaisha, Stain Davie and Patrick Macheso.

Silver Communications Officer, David Daniel Dauda, said they had completed signing new players and would release their squad tomorrow.

“We have seen a list of names of our players circulating on social media but that is not the official squad. We will release the names on Friday,” Dauda said.

Bullets begin the season with a showdown against Blue Eagles while Wanderers open theirs against returnees Red Lions.

Silver date rivals Civo Service United.
