Walter Nyamilandu congratulates Gabadinho Mhango

Fifa Council member and Football Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu has congratulated Gabadinho Mhango for becoming the first Malawian to win South Africa Premier Soccer League’s Golden Boot award.

Mhango shared the accolade with Highland Park’s Namibian forward Peter Shalulile after scoring 16 goals on Saturday as the 2019/20 season drew to a close.

Nyamilandu follows in the footsteps of Vice President Saulos Chilima who hailed the former Nyasa Big Bullets star for setting South African football alight with his classic goals.

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Nyamilandu described Mhango as a true ambassador of Malawi football.

“I am excited to extend to you my most profound congratulations and best wishes on your recent award as top goal scorer of the South African Premier Soccer League for the 2019/2020 season. This is no mean achievement.

“You have made history as the first Malawian and also the first Orlando Pirates player since 2002/03 season to win the PSL Golden Boot award. Your outstanding performance at both Malawi national team and Orlando Pirates is a great inspiration to many. You are a true ambassador of Malawian football. Please continue raising the bar,” reads part of the statement.

Mhango has clinched the accolade in his first season at Pirates after joining from Bidvest Wits early season.

He was also named player of the month af ter great performances in February and had one of his strikes against Polokwane City being voted goal of the month.
