Wandale granted restraining order
The Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court has stopped Zomba Mental Hospital from administering psychiatric treatment on self-acclaimed leader of People’s Land Organisation, Vincent Wandale.
Wandale has been admitted to the hospital for the past two weeks following a court ruling that he goes for psychiatric treatment. However, he has been refusing treatment preferring a private doctor since he suspects there is a scheme to eliminate him.
Public Relations Officer for Zomba Mental Hospital, Harry Kawiya, told The Daily Times on Monday that the hospital cannot start treating Wandale because of the restraining order.
“We have not yet received any communication on whether the order is still valid or not,” said Kawiya.
Meanwhile, Wandale’s family members yesterday said that they are being restricted from visiting their relative at the hospital.
“We thought it being a hospital, we could just go and see our brother but whenever we visit, they ask us a lot of questions and tell us that they have to consult authorities,” said Richard Issa, Wandale’s cousin.
Wandale was arrested in October.
