Be Forward Wanderers Chairperson, Gift Mkandawire, has fulfilled his pledge after rewarding players with K1 million for lifting the Fisd Challenge Cup for the second time.

“I made the pledge because we really wanted the trophy. I wanted to inspire them to fight hard. The situation was tricky as Wanderers and Silver Strikers wanted to finish the season with a trophy,” said the former Super League of Malawi (Sulom) vice-president.

Wanderers Captain, Alfred Manyozo, said they were inspired to win the trophy so as to avoid ending the season trophy-less.

“He promised us the money prior to the game. We thank him so much because he really wanted us to win. We had to win the trophy to give it as a present to our fans during this festive period,” he said.

In a five-goal thriller, Wanderers came from behind to defeat Silver 3-2 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday and lift the cup for the second time since the trophy was launched in 2016.

Victor Limbani restored parity for the Central Bankers but Yamikani Chester scored Wanderers’ winner.
