Be Forward Wanderers Head Coach Bob Mpinganjira has said the team is heading in the right direction after the 4-1 demolition of Ntopwa FC at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
Last season’s Wanderers’ top goal—scorer Babatunde Adepoju was on target twice whereas Vincent Nyangulu and new catch Michael Tetteh scored once each. Clever Chikwata scored Ntopwa’s consolation goal.
Mpinganjira said the coaching panel was impressed with how the forwards performed in the friendly.
“The performance was good and what pleased us most is that we had goals from different attackers. If we can carry on with this form we will likely do better next season,” he said.
However, Mpinganjira cautioned his charges not to get complacent, saying friendlies were different from competitive ones.
“We have a long way to go we just need to work hard together to achieve our goal. It will be a difficult challenge since every team would be fighting for the championship,” he said.
Last season Wanderers finished trophy-less.
Meanwhile, Ntopwa owner Isaac Jomo Osman has said his charges were beaming with confidence ahead of the next season which kicks off on Saturday.
“We have had good preparations and football fans should expect to see some exciting football this coming season. We have made some additions including Clever Chikwata, who scored against Wanderers,” he said.
Recently, Ntopwa suspended four players namely captain Happy Kasamba, vice-captain Mphatso Magaleta, Jawado Kanjuzi and Mark Lameck for breaching Covid-19 guidelines.
The quartet was suspended for allegedly taking part in two unsanctioned matches on October 30 and November 1 this year.
However, the side has recalled them after the players apologised for their conduct.
