Wanderers lose two points in Mzuzu
By Bernard Mhone:
TNM Super League leaders, Be Forward Wanderers, continued to endanger their title aspirations as they drew 0-0 against Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium Sunday.
This was the Nomads’ second stalemate in three games after their 1-1 draw against Silver Strikers the previous Sunday.
However, Wanderers are still at the summit with 44 points from 20 games after their 2-1 win over Mzuni on Saturday.
The Lali Lubani Road side had a chance to open a five-point gap with second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets but failed to collect maximum points against a stubborn Moyale.
The match started on a slow note with both teams failing to create scoring opportunities in the first half.
In the second half, Wanderers made a double substitution by introducing Isaac Kaliati and Fransisco Madinga for Joseph Kamwendo and Hankey Machira.
Moyale rested Black Alisen and Christopher Banda and introduced Brown Magaga and Gift Nyando.
The substitutions helped both teams to start playing attacking football with Moyale creating more scoring opportunities compared to Wanderers.
Moyale missed the services of key player Deus Nkutu due to an injury. Nkutu was the architect of Moyale’s 3-2 win over Wanderers in the first round
Wanderers Coach, Bob Mpinganjira, said they played under pressure as they fought to avoid losing.
“The level of competition in the league is quite high now. Every team is fighting for points and anything can happen. We also failed to play our usual passing game because of the bumpy pitch. Fatigue was another factor and it affected us,” Mpinganjira said.
Moyale Coach, Collins Nkuna, expressed satisfaction with the result.
“Wanderers have failed to beat us this year. We made sure that if we do not score, they should not score as well. Our plan was well executed. We beat them in the first round and they came hard on us but we stood our ground,” Nkuna said.
In other matches played Sunday, TN Stars defeated Mlatho Mponela 1-0 while Mighty Tigers beat Dwangwa United 2-0.
However, Karonga United failed to make homeground advantage count after going down 1-0 to Kamuzu Barracks.
