Mighty Mukuru Wanderers coach Alex Ngwira will be hoping for a better performance when his side hosts Mafco FC in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre this afternoon.
The Nomads are still licking their wounds after an embarrassing exit in the FDH Bank Cup following a 4-0 loss to arch-rivals Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) on Saturday.
This afternoon’s clash against Mafco provides them with a perfect opportunity to put smiles back on their fans’ faces.
However, the Salima based soldiers are not pushovers at any stage as they have a good record against Wanderers.
Mafco edged Wanderers 1-0 at the same venue in last season’s first round and are undefeated in three league matches.
In the first round this season, the Nomads grabbed a late equaliser to force a 1-1 draw at Chitowe Ground in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota District.
Ngwira said it will be a different match against Mafco.
’’We have rectified our mistakes and everything is in place. We believe the players will play according to instructions so that we get the result,’’ he said.
Wanderers are on position six with 37 points from 20 matches whereas Mafco are fourth with 39 points after playing 23 games.
Sounding calm and composed, Mafco coach Stereo Gondwe said he was confident of collecting maximum points.
’’We know they will come hard on us but we are ready for the challenge,’’ Gondwe said in a brief response.
Elsewhere, Blue Eagles have a chance to reclaim second spot when they face struggling Silver Strikers at BNS this afternoon. Buoyed by their 2-0 victory over Red Lions at Nankhaka Stadium, Eagles can overtake Kamuzu Barracks (KB) if they beat Silver who fired blanks in a barren draw with Karonga United.
The policemen’s assistant coach Christopher Sibale said they are fighting their own battles.
’’Silver are a very good side and playing away is always tricky. But we are going there to collect maximum points,’’ Sibale said.
There could be renewed hope in the Silver camp following the arrival of assistant coach Etison Kadenge Mwafulirwa.
In another match, Moyale will face Rumphi United at Mzuzu Stadium.
Action continues Sunday with leaders and defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets hosting Civil Service United at Kamuzu Stadium whereas Ekwendeni Hammers will take on Karonga United at Mzuzu Stadium.
Sable Farming host KB at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre while Dedza Dynamos will be in action against Mighty Wakawaka Tigers at Dedza Stadium.
