Be Forward Wanderers’ revival in the TNM Super League continued Sunday when they beat Kamuzu Barracks (KB) 2-0 at Kamuzu Stadium to move up to third on the 16-team log table.
Following the loss, KB dropped to second position on the table behind Blue Eagles.
KB have 14 points from seven games while Wanderers have collected 13 points from six games.
Wanderers assistant Coach, Oscar Kaunda, made three changes to the team that thrashed Dwangwa United 5-0 last weekend as Francis Mlimbika replaced Ted Sumani whereas Stanley Sanudi and Peter Cholopi returned from Malawi national football team duties to star for the Lali Lubani Road side.
KB were solid and hoped to collect maximum points following their 1-0 win over debutants Ntopwa on Saturday at the same venue.
Having lost both home and away games to Wanderers last season, the soldiers were a disaster in the making as they hardly registered a shot on target in the first-half.
After labouring in vain for the better part of the half, Wanderers went ahead through a Francis Mkonda header following Sanudi’s inviting cross in the 36th minute.
The two teams went for recess with the Nomads leading 1-0.
The second-half was a balanced affair with Mkonda hitting the crossbar from another header whereas KB’s Manase Chiyesa saw his shot ricocheting against the crossbar.
Wanderers extended the lead when Vincent Nyangulu breached the soldiers’ defence before shooting into the net to end the match on a 2-0 scoreline.
Mkonda was named Man-of-the-Match.
KB Coach, Billy Phambala, conceded defeat, saying it was difficult to play two games in one weekend.
“We had another difficult game on Saturday but we are determined to bounce back,” Phambala said.
Wanderers Team Manager, Victor Maunde, said the win underlined their intent to chase the league title.
“The boys were impressive and we will continue this way,” Maunde said.
In another match played Sunday, Savenda Chitipa United ended their fruitless trip to the Central Region with a 1-0 loss to TN Stars after going down 2-0 to Mlatho Mponela on Saturday.
Tonic Viyuyi scored for Stars while Chitipa’s Christopher Mtambo scooped the Man-of-the- Match accolade.
