Wanderers want derby in Lilongwe

TNM Super League leaders Be Forward Wanderers are considering hosting Blantyre rivals Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) Lilongwe next week.

Wanderers Chairperson, Gift Mkandawire, said their fans have requested them to consider using BNS as their home ground.

However, Mkandawire said such a suggestion would depend on the club’s Executive Committee’s approval.

“It is true that our supporters have requested us to play our game against Bullets in Lilongwe. The fixture shows that we are at home and we are yet to make our decision,” he said.

“They pointed out that the game would make more money in Lilongwe than in Blantyre. A part from that, we are looking at the issue of collecting points. The league has reached a boiling stage so a lot happens when are playing at Kamuzu Stadium.”

Wanderers Supporters Committee Chairperson, Mervin Nkunika, said their fellow fans want the game played in Lilongwe.

Bullets Chief Administrator, Albert Chigoga, said it would be costly for them to play against Wanderers in Lilongwe.

Chigoga said they would wait for an official communication from Super League of Malawi on the fixture.

On Sunday, Wanderers drew 1-1 against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Recently, the Nomads complained about poor patronage at Kamuzu Stadium.

The Nomads lead the Super League log table with 40 points from 18 matches whereas Bullets are second with 38 points from the same number of matches.

This weekend, Wanderers travel to Mzuzu to play Mzuni FC on Saturday then Moyale Barracks on Sunday, both games at Mzuzu Stadium.
