Warriors admit pressure

TNM Super League relegation strugglers, Mzuzu Warriors, have admitted mounting pressure in their quest to survive relegation as the second round stage reaches its crucial point.
Coach Gilbert Chirwa has conceded that they are finding the going tough but vowed never to give up.
The Mzuzu-based Super League outfit is on position 15 on the log table with 15 points from 19 matches.
Speaking after a 1-1 stalemate with Chitipa United on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium, Chirwa said the single point was vital in their survival battle.
“There is a lot of pressure in the second round but we will not give up. We will keep fighting. We have played well in several matches but failed to deliver. This happens in football. We just need to engage the players so that they fight harder for us to escape relegation. A strong striking force is all we need to remain in the league,” Chirwa said.
He said Chitipa managed to equalise on Sunday because of poor communication between his defence and the goalkeeper Pilirani Mapira.
“The equaliser came in the dying minutes due to a blunder. If communication were good, that goal would have been avoided. It is disappointing that we managed to get just a point. We were on top of the game from the beginning up to the dying minutes when we conceded a silly goal due to misunderstanding between a defender and the goalkeeper,” Chirwa said.
On his part, Chitipa United Coach Christopher Nyambose expressed satisfaction with the point earned.
“Collecting two points from Mzuzu is not bad. We wanted to avoid defeat in the two games and we have achieved our goal,” Nyambose, whose team collected another point in a goalless stalemate on Saturday against Moyale Barracks, said.
In a related development, Mighty Tigers Coach Trevor Kajawa, whose team is anchoring the 16-member log table with 14 points from 18 games, also maintained that Kau Kau are good enough to beat the drop.
“We still have a good team that will survive relegation and there are more matches to play. So we are not losing hope,” Kajawa said.
He was speaking after his charges went down 2-1 to Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
Silver Strikers are tied with Bullets at the summit of the log table with 39 points.
