After its chic launch recently, Malawi Has Talent Season 1 led by The Times Group through Times Television in partnership with First Capital Bank (FCB) has kept up its pace ahead of its grand finale on July 1 2023 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
The Times Group Chief Commercial Manager Ralph Chirwa said yesterday that the country should brace for the best in Malawi Has Talent.
He said they started with a call for submissions which attracted over 200 entries from across the country from the disciplines such as acrobatics, arts and craft, musicians, contortionists, football freestyles, dancers, fashion designers, poets and magicians.
“There is so much that people will experience. We have auditions before going for the national elimination show. During auditions, the judges will give people a yes or no. The no will go home whereas the yes means just a nod and not automatically that you have made it through to the next stage,” Chirwa said.
He said the judges will select 30 acts from the auditions that will make it to the national elimination show slated for June 17 2023 where the public will select the best 10 through voting.
“ The 10 acts will battle it out in the grand finale where the top three will be selected with the winner walking away with K5 million, whereas second and third-place winners will receive K2 million and K1 million, respectively,” Chirwa said.
The judges for Malawi Has Talent are Mr Entertainer Jai Banda, celebrated poet Q Malewezi, Zilanie Gondwe and gospel musician Wendy Harawa whereas the hosts are Times Group presenters Blak Jak, Thabi Kamwangala Mwenefumbo and Yankho Seunda.
“We just want to ask people to follow all our platforms including Times Radio, Television, Times360 on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and our newspapers. There is more and it is all about showing the country’s talents,” he said.
FCB Head of Marketing and Communication Twikale Chirwa said they were happy to partner Times Group in the event.
“At First Capital Bank, belief comes first and we believe Malawi has talent. We are a bank for all Malawians and our objective is to uplift the socio-economic fabric of Malawi,” Chirwa said.
He said they have pumped K40 million into sponsorship and K20 million in activation.
“This is the first of three seasons and both participants and viewers stand a chance to win cash, branded regalia and free tickets. We have sponsored three seasons at K40 million each season; K120 million for three years,” Chirwa said.
