Water Aid donates to Mtandire floods victims
Floods victims in Mtandire in Lilongwe received a timely boost as Water Aid donated assorted relief items said to be worth K1.5 million.
The donation was made over the weekend and included soaps, buckets and other utensils. In her remarks during the donation, Water Aid, Urban Programmes Manager, Sella Jumbo said Water Aid was shocked by the extent of the damage by the floods.
“We felt that it was important to support the victims. The affected families are experiencing different challenges, especially in the areas of water management, hygiene and sanitation,” she said.
Representative of the victims, a Mrs Chida, hailed Water Aid for the donation, saying it will help alleviate some of the challenges the victims are facing.
Recently, President Peter Mutharika and Vice President Saulos Chilima also visited the floods victims and donated assorted items. Malawi Congress Party (MCP) also donated some items to the floods victims.
Companies, organisations and individuals have also joined hands to assist the affected families in Mtandire.
Floods affected some parts of Lilongwe and three people were found dead in Lingadzi River. The affected areas include areas 47, 18, 49, 25 and Mtandire.
