Waya’s fate undecided
Uncertainty surrounds Mary Waya’s future with the Malawi national netball team as Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) is yet to decide whether to continue with her as head coach.
Waya led the Queens at two major events, October’s Fast 5 Netball World Series in Australia and at three test matches in England last month but has failed to win a match in nine competitive outings and one friendly game.
Nam General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said it was too early to comment on Waya’s future as the executive is yet to meet and strategise on the way forward.
“When we meet and make a decision we will notify you,” Bapu said.
Waya took over as the Queens’ Head Coach after Sam Kanyenda withdrew his services following misunderstandings with Nam over the Mwawi Kumwenda saga in October.
Kanyenda was displeased after Nam refused to recall Mwawi for the Fast 5 Netball World Series after being expelled due her late arrival in camp.
Currently, Waya is being deputised by Civonets Coach, Whyte Mulilima, who led his charges to GOtv Netball Champions League glory.
