We erred on coaches appointment—Nam

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has admitted it erred in the process of appointing Peace Chawinga- Kalua as Malawi Queens coach and Mary Waya as the deputy.

This follows Malawi National Council of Sports cautioning Nam to revisit the recruitment process.

Nam pres iden , t Rose Chinunda, said they intend to resolve the future of coaches this weekend.

“Of course, we made a mistake. We used the same system when selecting Mary Waya. At that time, Sports Council wrote us for future reference that the criterion which we used was not appropriate. So they advised us that in future we should advertise the post and then hold interviews,” she said.

Chinunda also said Sports Council raised a genuine concern when it questioned the contracts that were handed to the two coaches.

“The contracts had the same terms of reference and package. We didn’t differentiate between the head-coach and the deputy. So we need to draft another contract,” she said.

The Nam president said it was their desire to sort out the issue quickly.

“We certainly must come up with a decision by this weekend and then we will formalize everything,” she said.

Chawinga-Kalua was appointed to spearhead Malawi Queens revival as Nam seeks to break into top four having been failing to go beyond the top five since 2005.

Queens are expected to camp next week in preparation for the Diamond Challenge in South Africa and Africa Netball Championship in Namibia. Both events are set for next month.
