We made statement —Moyale Barracks Coach
Moyale Barracks Coach, Nicholas Mhango, has said his charges made a big statement by ousting Fisd Challenge Cup defending champions Be Forward Wanderers after beating them 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium on Tuesday.
“Everybody knew that we were playing against the defending champions, which made us go into the game as underdogs. And if you defeat a team with such a tag in a cup competition, it means you are better placed to challenge for honours.
“But the most important thing is that the players played according to my instructions. Their [fighting] spirit was good. We are looking forward to what will happen next,” Mhango said.
During the game, Timothy Nyirenda was Moyale’s hero as his first-half brace won the preliminary round game.
Wanderers’ veteran striker Esau Kanyenda came close to scoring after nine minutes with a left-foot shot, but Simeon Harawa, in Moyale’s goal, was saved by the post.
Wanderers Coach, Yasin Osman, conceded defeat, but said the scheduling of the match was not proper, having played against Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
