Chitipa United has breathed a sigh of relief after well-wishers pledged to donate K2.6 million to help the team clear its coaster which is at Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) bond at Songwe border in Karonga.

Minister of Health, Jappie Mhango, Minister of Tourism, Environment, Parks and Wildlife, Symon Vuwa Kaunda and Mulli Brothers Limited have contributed money to bail out the TNM Super League side to clear the 32-seater bus.

Mulli has pumped in K1.1 million while Mhango has contributed K1 million with Kaunda donating K500,000.

Kaunda confirmed the development saying this was in response to Chitipa’s request which they got when holding a political rally in the district [Chitipa] over the weekend.

“We thought it necessary to support the team after noticing that they had problems clearing the bus which has stayed at the border for a long time. We are proud of the team,” Kaunda said.

He assured Chitipa that the bus will be cleared within this week.

Meanwhile, Director of Mulli Brothers Limited, Leston Mulli has pledged to assist Chitipa with sports equipment and logistical bills ranging from food, accommodation and transportation whenever the team travels to Blantyre for competitive matches.

In his reaction Chitipa general secretary, Pickford Kamanga commended the ministers and Mulli for the gesture.

Kamanga also appealed to the general public to desist from politicising the development.

“This is a blessing to Chitipa United family because everybody wants to be associated with a good thing. Mhango and Kaunda also assisted us before the campaign period,” he said.

Earlier this year Mhango and Kaunda donated K2.5 million to Chitipa to step up preparations for the yet to kick off 2020 season.
