Why Ruth Chisale’s bout failed
Ngumi Boxing Stable has blamed a Kenyan matchmaker [name withheld] for being behind Ruth Chisale’s botched double title fight.
Chisale was expected to face American Layla McCarter for Global Boxing Union and Women’s International Boxing Federation belt at Wildpark Stadion-Karlsrushe in Germany on Saturday.
But the promoter pulled out of the fight because Chisale’s stable was engaged in a dispute with the matchmaker.
Ngumi Managing Director, Steve ‘Mawenzi’ Msiska, said they withdrew from the fight following a number of issues, including the pre-condition to let Chisale travel alone to Germany.
“Ruth’s visa delayed because the matchmaker was not cooperative. Furthermore, the matchmaker wanted Ruth to travel without a manager and trainer, which raised eyebrows. It was suicidal for her to travel alone. Besides, the contract which we got was somehow dubious and, when we demanded an original copy, we weren’t given,” he said.
Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board President, Lonzoe ‘Defector ’ Zimba, said they took to task Chisale’s management team.
“They wrote us asking for a clearance for Ruth to travel to England for another title fight at the end of the month but we declined as we were in the dark on the fight in Germany. We discussed at length and we were convinced that the Kenyan promoter was dubious because he presented a photocopied contract. We can’t allow a boxer to travel without her coach and manager for a bout of such magnitude,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chisale’s management has said the fight will be rescheduled as they were now dealing with the promoter directly.
