BY RAHIM KAMWANA, MANA:
Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer, Wilson Masamba, dates South African Jeremiah Nakathila on August 3 in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) continental title bout in Namibia.
Masamba, who is training in South Africa, said he was ready to grab the title on second attempt. Malawian boxers hardly win in Namibia.
“I was unlucky during my first fight in Namibia as judges were not on my side; otherwise I should have won that fight on points. I am confident that August 3 will be my day. Boxing is my game and I know how to control it.
“My supporters should trust me. I am going for a technical knockout so as to avoid what happened last time. So, I urge my fans to support me during this fight as I am carrying Malawi’s flag,” he said.
Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board President, Lonzoe Zimba, said Malawian boxers are getting the opportunity of international fights; a sign of progress in the sport.
“We wish Masamba all the best as he will be representing Malawi in Namibia. This is a great opportunity for him to grab the WBO belt. Our body is working hard to create opportunities for our boxers to be recognised internationally,” he said.
