Wilson Masamba, Malani Kayuni ready for showdown
Renowned boxers, Wilson Masamba and Malani Kayuni, face-off at Lilongwe Community Ground on Sunday with contrasting missions.
Both boxers are eager to prove a point during the non-title bout.
Masamba, christened ‘Shasha’ for his wits in the ring, wants to win back his fans’ confidence after he was floored after 47 seconds in his last bout held in Namibia late last year.
Masamba said he wants to prove that the incident was a little stain on his otherwise remarkable career.
“This is a new fight all together. What happened in Namibia was just unfortunate. I want to prove to people that I am still good. I will teach Malani a lesson. I want his brother, Osgood, to see what I will do on Saturday so that he can no longer challenge me. I am ready for the battle,” he said.
Malani is on a revenge mission after losing the last two bouts against Masamba.
“After losing the first bout, I produced an improved performance in the second bout. This time around, I am confident of winning the bout. I have studied him and I know where to get him,” he said.
Both boxers have shown respect for each other after refusing to promise a knock-out.
Businessperson, Willy Kachepa, has sponsored the fight through Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions at K500,000.
“My aim is to develop the sport, therefore, I will keep promoting top fights. We look forward to an exciting bout this weekend,” he said.
Twenty-four year-old Kayuni has won 13 fights, drawn twice and lost eight times.
The boxing feast starts on Saturday with Brian Mwando facing Felix Mwamaso at Robins Park in Blantyre on Saturday.
