After a disappointing outing late last year, Malawi Defence Force bantamweight boxer, Wilson Masamba, has finally stated that he lost in 47 seconds to Namibian opponent, Jeremiah Nakathila, because he failed to duck a punch.
Masamba, speaking ahead of a non-title fight against Malani Kayuni set for Lilongwe, said it was unfortunate that he lost within the first minute of the first round.
“However, you must understand that these things happen in boxing. It was a lucky punch and I am not the first boxer to have lost that way,” said the 31-year-old boxer with 31 fights, including 22 wins, seven defeats and two draws.
“I am rewriting my chapter and I am asking my fans to come in large numbers to watch me slaughter Malani. I will put up an impressive performance. My family members, including brothers, have supported me ahead of the fight. Similarly, my promoter and manager have also been with me.”
Meanwhile, Malani has vowed to spoil Masamba’s return in his quest to revenge two defeats he suffered to the soldier.
“My appeal is that he should be within the required weight category. I know he doesn’t want to push up the weight category because he is afraid of some senior boxers,” he said.
Malani, 24, has fought 23 times, winning 13 fights, drawing twice and losing eight fights.
