Woman at large after allegedly poisoning 5 people
Police in Mangochi are on a hunt for a brown toned medium height woman in her early 40s who ran away after she allegedly poisoned one woman and four children. The suspect has been identified as ‘mayi wabwino’ as famously called by her Kachasu (a locally distilled beer) customers.
According to the Mangochi Police Spokesperson, Rodrick Maida, the suspect prepared some vetegables which she gave to her neighbour and told her to safely keep the relish for her (neighbour’s) husband so that he would eat as soon as he got back from work.
In a dramatic twist of events, the relish meant for one person was stolen and shared by 5 people.
“A son to the couple stole some of the relish and secretly shared it with three other children. When the mother of the child noticed that the relish had been tampered with and that too little was left to keep, she finished the leftovers. Sometime later, the 5 started feeling dizzy, and when the suspect (‘mayi wabwino’) realized what had happened, she fled”, said Maida
Maida believes the suspect had intended to poison her neigbour’s husband by adding among other things, some liquid elements of Indian Hemp (locally known as chamba) to the relish. The 5 victims were rushed to the hospital and are now feeling better.
